The Central High School Fine Arts Department invites EVERYONE to the Third Annual Sleigh Bells Ring Concert Extravaganza on Saturday, December 11th from 1-8:00 pm at Central High School, 44W625 Plato Road, Burlington, IL  60109.

This event began in 2018 as a Girl Scout Gold Award project and has been expanded to include more activities and fun every year.  Over 800 people attended the event in 2019 and even more are expected this year.  As Jim Struyk, Fine Art Chair and Director of Instrumental Music explains, “The Sleigh Bells Ring concert is an amazing opportunity for our music program to showcase our students. The event includes every vocal and instrumental performing ensemble at Central High School, plus our newly formed CHS Drama Club.  I am really proud of the work we have put into this event and the focus on the community.  We want it to be a day full of music, fun and holiday spirit for the entire community.”

Come and purchase last minute goodies at the vendor/craft fair. Kids of all ages will be able to make winter themed art projects in the craft corner developed by the CHS Art Club. The entire family will enjoy free horse-drawn sleigh rides and be able to visit with Santa. Delicious food will be available for purchase from Café Roma. Come out and support the Central High School music students while enjoying the festivities of the Holiday season!

The CHS Fine Arts Department is pleased to present this year’s Fall Play She Kills Monsters: Young Adventurers’ Edition, live in person, November 11-14. A comedic romp into the world of fantasy role-playing games, She Kills Monsters: Young Adventurers Edition is a high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and ’90s pop culture –a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all. After cheerleader Agnes discovers a strange notebook belonging to her recently deceased sister, Agnes goes on an adventure looking for answers and finds the sister she never knew she had.

Due to COVID restrictions, masks will be required for all audience members.

This show discusses LGBTQ+ issues.

As there is some mild and suggestive language, this show is most suitable for children and families ages 12+. Parental discretion is advised for younger children.

Showtimes are as follows:

Thursday, November 11 @ 7PM

Friday, November 12 @ 7PM

Saturday, November 13 @ 8PM

Sunday, November 14 @ 2PM

The running time of this show is approximately 90 minutes with no intermission.

For New Students!

We are excited to start the 2021-2022 school year!  In an effort to allow students to familiarize themselves with the building, we will be holding a Locker Set Up Day on Thursday, August 5th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. for our incoming ninth graders and our new families.  Due to the pandemic limiting student access around the building last school year, tenth graders will be permitted to attend on Locker Set Up Day as well. During this time students will be able to set up their lockers and walk their schedules. Our buildings and grounds staff has been working tirelessly all summer to get our building ready for students.  Due to the shortened summer, we will be holding one date for this event.

Schedules with room numbers and teachers, along with lockers, will go live for students in Skyward next week, prior to the Locker Set Up Day.  A notification will be sent out once this information is able to be viewed in Skyward, so please keep your eyes peeled!  Please note, that while we are offering this opportunity to our community, schedules (teacher assignments, room numbers, etc.) remain subject to change up until the first day of school.  In order to gain access to this information, please make sure you have completed the registration and fee payment process.

Students should enter the building at Door 2.  Please come prepared with access to schedules and locker assignments.  The Skyward App or a printed document are both great resources.  If you require assistance with the registration process or have any other questions, please contact the main office at 847-464-6030.

IMPORTANT UPCOMING DATES TO MARK ON YOUR CALENDAR:

Picture Day- August 13th

Open House- August 25th- 5:30-8:00 p.m.

What are skilled trades?

When occupations require a person to have a special skill or ability prior to hiring, they are called skilled trades. These abilities can be acquired via technical school, college or specialized training, giving a different option to those who would prefer not to attend a four-year college program.

Please consider joining us virtually. Here is the link for more information, current videos, and where to register for the webinars.
